You know that friend of a friend who ended up becoming a part of your heart? That's what Maddie was to me 🩷

I was contacted by Sadie's parents to start training with her immediately after bringing home their 7 month old rescue puppy 🐾

I would then be in their home 3 days a week working with Sadie while her owners were at work (in between our training lessons). I was told to focus on Sadie (since Maddie was a catdog that is just happy to sunbathe out back) ☀️

Although Maddie & Sadie's owners were VERY accurate in their description of Maddie's demeanor, I couldn't help but indulge her in snuggles and air sniff kisses every time I would come over 😘

I am so thankful Maddie got to be Sadie's big sister because all the best parts of her can now live on 🌱

Maddie, you were an incredible dog for Zoe & Jack to grow up with it & an amazing "first child" to Brett & Elyse.

Would you believe me if I said I didn't actively teach my niece ANY of this? // My nieces are my world 🌎 With that being the case, I bring them into mine as frequently as I can, whether training a dog or cleaning my apartment on a Sunday ☀️

They will be posted up on my couch watching Bluey (or so I'll think) to later find the real-life Bluey--my aussie cattle mix - and how I interact with her is what was really captivating their attention 😯

In this video, you see Carlin do ALL the things I teach owners to do when trying to facilitate a more calm dog:

✅️ Only praise dog when in a state of mind you like (i.e., calm)

✅️ Pulling a reward away if they move out of their command (in this case "sit') or are too mouthy with their grab

✅️ Offering audible praise for a job well done

By training your dog, you are training your children how to respect dogs 🩷

This is more than a post about dog training. This is a post about how we show up in the world:

People are listening to / watching you, what do you want them to learn from doing so?

🌻 Do you want them to realize what it means to be kind?

🌻 Do you want them to see what it looks like to follow through on their goals?

🌻 Do you want them to know how to better respect others?

Be the change you want to see in your children, your home, your dog, your workplace, your family, & your world.

I bet it will be a lot more beautiful if you did 🥰

Olive, you have impacted me in ways that only a soul can feel 🩷

So much of what I loved in you, I love in my own dog Stitch so it always felt like you may have been a soul dog to me just the same.

Like your Einstein hair, or your incessant butt wiggles when you really wanted to jump, or your reluctant but enjoyed snuggles 🤗

I am so immensely grateful I was given the chance to be your dog sitter starting my first year of college when I was still figuring out what I wanted to do with my life because I feel meeting you was a sliding door moment for me.

By meeting you, I met me & who I wanted to be.

I wanted to be someone who loved & respected loving souls like yours as a career.

Thank you for being you 🥹

And thank you Laura, Jeremy, & Sam for sharing her with me all these years. I am forever grateful.
